Ten times more likely. One of the many reasons I’m uncomfortable with people at my school believing that they’re entitled to get away with doing any drugs they want. On the one hand, I think we should legalize all drugs, so philosophically I’m not opposed to people doing what they want (so long as it doesn’t negatively affect others). On the other, though, it really bothers me that students at my school get away with it — and expect to get away with it — because they’re rich and mostly white (though in this specific case, the wealth factor may be more important? I’m not really sure), with very little consideration of the privilege involved. I’m pretty sure the Reedie who was caught with distributable amounts of cocaine two years ago was allowed to finish out her time here, and as far as I know (correct me if I’m wrong!) she was not sentenced to jail time. A rich white girl I knew back home, caught in the same situation, was barely reprimanded. It makes me crazy and super conflicted. I hate the drug laws we have, but god damn if we have them they should be enforced equally or not at all.
